Not all iPhone apps are crap. The Bing search app, for instance, will display images in search at full resolution, rather than scaled 2x like the rest of the apps.

There is an app called Camera for iPad that links your iPhone and iPad wirelessly. You see the preview display from the camera on the iPad's display in real time. Take a picture and it transfers instantly.

Weatherbug is your friend.

Remote for iPhone works, even if it's not full screen.

Hey Chris, discovered your blog and thought I'd add some comments here since I'm bored...

1. I think that's a bit like saying McDonald's will die soon :) Mainstream and popular enough to withstand "uncool" features and controversies. The online world does move fast though...

2. Google will merely have their OS (Android) on hand-held devices used by personnel of "The Company", which will evolve from at least one of the aerospace giants :)

5. The access is pretty much already here, it's the fight over how it's obtained that will be known as the "Copyright Wars".

6. I block most online stuff with a Firefox plugin, so most of the time I don't know what I'm missing. As long as people are watching FTA/PayTV there will be ads on TV. FTA viewership has been in some decline (thanks to the contempt they have for viewers), millions are still tuning in.

7. The NBN would be a "nice to have", but it's possibly overkill. ADSL connections (where available) do a provide a pretty good broadband service, but the ageing copper is probably its achilles heel. Mobile networks are convenient, but data charges are too high and I can't see enough bandwidth being available for stuff like HD video.

8. See 7.

9. Won't happen, people will always open up fake accounts anyway. The main spam problem centres around organised crime using botnets to send their crap out.

10. ...based on anti-grav technology -which would change things massively

10a. Hah, yeah -check out the novel "The Light of Other Days" as a kind of ultimate "what if" with respect to privacy.

Agree that most of the time wireless is fine, but comparing the service levels before and after the iPhones went live ends in tears. A large chunk of the month after Optus launched the iPhone 3G into the market my wireless optus 3g card pretty much failed to get a constant signal.

So having this capacity constraint on the 3G network is not going to improve if more people start to use it, but i think that business needs the NBN more than consumers. If business doesn't have high speed capacity it will limit innovation and the ability for our online companies to effectively compete with overseas.

I have noticed with the rise in skype calls, webinars, software updates and even hosted solutions that the 7 gig included on my optus 3g card is not fast enough or sufficient. I do say this as im streaming music from http://Di.fm while typing this post....
